OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a technique to visualize the inside of the coronary artery with a special catheter inserted into the artery. This uses high definition infra-red light to accurately assess the various types of structures (clots, ruptured plaque or simple plaque) causing the narrowing inside artery. This can also help to accurately decide the size of the stent to be used in the blockage and also to assess the stent after deployment to make sure there is no space left between the stent and the wall of the artery. This is particularly helpful to improve the outcome of the angioplasty in the long run.
