Left atrial appendage (LAA) closure
In patients with long standing atrial fibrillation, there is risk of clot forming in the left side upper chamber of the heart (left atrium). This is prevented by patients taking long term blood thinner such as warfarin. In patients who can’t take long term blood thinners due to reasons such as bleeding, left atrial appendage closure device can be performed to prevent stroke, which is caused by the clot moving to the blood vessel in brain from heart. The device is inserted through a key-hole in the groin area.
